How To Apply

ADMISSION INFORMATION
SUNY Geneseo invites applications from international students who are located outside the United States and from those currently studying in the United States.

Applicants may choose to apply for the fall semester, August intake or the spring semester, January intake. Completed applications for the Fall semester must be received by June 1st in order to be considered. Completed applications for the Spring semester must be received by November 1st in order to be considered. All applicants for admission to SUNY Geneseo, not for admission to an individual program at Geneseo.

Applicants may indicate the subject they wish to study or, if they are undecided about the specific subject they wish to study, they may say on the application form that their intended field of study is “undecided.”

Students studying in grade 12 at a U.S. High School and students overseas who will complete their secondary studies (e.g. those taking GCSE O-Level exams) should apply as first-year or freshman level applicants.

Students who have studied at the post-secondary level, such as those at a U.S. community college or a foreign university and those with completed GCE A-level exams or an International Baccalaureate Diploma may apply as advanced level or transfer students.

COMPLETING APPLICATION FORMS
The materials required for freshman applicants are somewhat different from those required of advanced level/transfer applicants.  The application form provides a list of required documents and a checklist of actions to complete in order to apply.  All students, however, must provide evidence of their English Language abilities, examples of this include:

1. Sufficient results on the TOEFL, or IELTS.

2. Documentation of successful completion of an Intensive English Program.

Geneseo admits only students who have succeeded in their studies and whose academic record of achievement promises continuing success at Geneseo. Admission is based upon academic achievement, not on financial ability.

Once admitted, all international students are asked to submit financial documents, including a sponsorship form and bank statement, to show they have money to cover living and academic expenses for one full year of study.
