Frequently
Asked Questions about SUNY Geneseo.
What
are the residence halls (dormitories) like?
Geneseo offers accommodations in fifteen different residence
halls, three of which (Wyoming, Steuben and Wayne Halls) are open during all school breaks and vacations. The residence halls include first-year student housing centers, upperclass halls and
townhouses (which International Students can reside in during school breaks and vacations.) Every Geneseo international student
is guaranteed on-campus housing all four years.
There are two basic residence
hall designs: corridor and suite. All residence halls are co-ed however, bed, rooms, suites, and bathrooms are single sex. In most cases men and women live in separate sections of a residence hall. For pictures
of the rooms on campus, click here
What
about safety in the residence halls?
Each building is secure and locked. Students may only enter their residence
halls with a valid student identification card and personal security code number.
Each bedroom has its own lock and the doors to suites have combination
locks. For more information about on-campus safety click here
How
do I view my child’s grades?
Students’ grades and all of their records are confidential; the
only person who has access to your child’s grades is your child.
In fact, all records of health services such as an examination, treatment
and lab work are confidential as well. No one has access to these records
without your child's written permission.
How
much will it cost for my child to attend SUNY Geneseo?
In 2006-2007 the cost for an International Student attending Geneseo is estimated to be $20,665.50 USD.
This dollar amount includes all tuition and fees, the price of an on-campus room, a meal plan for the
entire year, and international health insurance. This dollar amount is the total before any
scholarships or other awards are subtracted. The majority of students receive some form
of scholarship support, with the average award being $2,000 USD per year.
International student scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years for a total award of
$8,000 USD. For more information about the Cost of attending SUNY Geneseo,
please click here.
How can I contact my child?
Email is most likely the cheapest and most efficient means of communicating
with your child. Some students and their families purchase webcams so they can
see each other while talking online!
How can my child call me by telephone?
When
students arrive at Geneseo they are given a PBN (Personal Billing Number).
Using this number, they can call long distance, make local calls and on-campus
calls from their bedrooms. They will be billed monthly. Many students buy
international calling cards to use when calling home. Each bedroom
in a residence hall has its own telephone number so you may call your child directly.
How
can I send my child Mail?
Upon
arriving in Geneseo, each student will be assigned a mailbox. You may
send mail by addressing it to:
